Summary

This position is located in the Department of Labor, OSHA, Savannah, GA.

- This position is inside the Bargaining Unit.

Responsibilities

Major duties for this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Answering inquiries and explaining personnel rules and regulations;
  • Assisting the Area Director in a variety of personnel actions such as recruitment, promotions or reassignments of area office employees;
  • Tracking performance appraisal due dates;
  • Reviewing accident reports and incidents that occur to office personnel;
  • Serving as timekeeper and providing administrative oversight of the leave program, time and attendance reporting;
  • Keeps current on basic personnel rules and regulations and prepares requests for personnel actions for submission to the regional office;
  • Serves as confidential assistant to the Area Director in relation to personnel issues;
  • Handles office budget and fiscal matters;
  • Maintains records of area office expenditures, including costs of salaries, benefits, travel, communications, utilities, printing supplies and equipment;
  • Prepares report estimating projected spending through the end of the fiscal year and prepares year-end adjustment entries on recurring adjustment actions for year-end appropriations;
  • Ensures that property, space, and equipment is maintained, repaired, and/or modified in accordance with the Department Property Management System;
  • Processes travel vouchers for Area Director and advises staff of most cost-effective travel regulations;
  • Receives all visitors and telephone calls for the Area Director.
  • Provides guidance or personally review files and delete applicable information subject to the provisions of the Freedom Information Act (FOIA) and then release requested information in a timely manner.
  • Taking on general office administration procedures, which includes, travel, records management, correspondence control, citation processing, debt collection, processing mail and maintaining files, payroll, time keeping, procurement, and property inventory.

    • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Public Trust clearance.

      Applicants must meet time-in-grade, time-after-competitive-appointment and qualifications requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the vacancy to be eligible for consideration for selection.

      Qualifications

      Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, in the Federal Service.

      To qualify at the GS-06 Grade level: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience reviewing correspondence, directives, documents, making travel arrangements, or receiving visitors and phone calls.

      To qualify at the GS-07 Grade level: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience processing travel vouchers, receiving visitors, making travel arrangements or scheduling appointments.

      For GS-6 and GS-7: there are no substitution of education for experience at these grade levels
