Job Description:
The primary role of the Reliability Engineer is to improve
asset/capacity reliability through the elimination of repetitive
failures, technical support of the maintenance function and the
management of appropriate Preventive and Predictive Maintenance
processes.Act as an advisor to the production departments,
providing proactive leadership, direction, single point
accountability and technical expertise required to achieve and
sustain optimum reliability, maintainability, and useful life for
sugar manufacturingManage the activities necessary to ensure that
equipment/assets are designed, fabricated, installed, operated, and
maintained in a way that provides the desired performance in a
safe, environmentally protected, and reliable fashion.The
Reliability Engineer will apply/develop her/his expertise in the
areas of inspection and repair of pressure vessels, aboveground
storage tanks, equipment reliability, corrosion, mechanics, in the
effort of reducing capital and maintenance costs.Primary
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Act as a site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all Reliability
activities.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Root Cause Failure
Analysis (RCFA) following the company process. Implement robust
corrective actions and report out on effects to failure rates.
- Perform studies on equipment failures and present solution(s)
to management. Prepare diagrams, drawings, charts, calculations,
and reports for defining reliability problems and recommending
solutions.
- Own the Mechanical Integrity program: develop inspection plans,
manage NDT contractors, plan, and coordinate the inspections with
the departments of the manufacturing plant.
- Analyze the inspection reports, provide recommendations, and
develop repair plans for found deficiencies.
- Oversee the repair plan activities coordinating the efforts
with the department teams.
- Establish corrosion rates based on inspection history.
- Perform Fitness-For-Service (FFS) assessments.
- Act as a site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for welding
processes, welding procedures, welder qualifications, and
metallurgical effects from welding.
- Act as a site SME for the design, maintenance, inspection, and
mitigation practices to address external corrosion under insulation
(CUI) of carbon and low alloy steels and external chloride stress
corrosion cracking (ECSCC) of austenitic stainless steels, and
galvanic corrosion.
- Maintain service documentation and other records to establish
asset history.
- As an integral team member and in a hands-on manner, work
closely with internal clients to find, progress, and implement
solutions to improve equipment reliability.
- Actively work toward the elimination/minimization of production
losses associated with unplanned issues and of unplanned
maintenance and capital expenditures.
- Manage reliability data, work orders, maintenance of the asset
hierarchy, Bills of Materials, technical library, etc.
- Develop and implement changes to equipment maintenance plans
based on failure modes, historical data, reliability principles and
best practices.
- Facilitate Equipment Criticality strategy formulation and
ranking sessions.
- Conduct FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).
- Contribute to a customer-focused culture of discipline,
attention to detail, and teamwork.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities for existing
equipment.
- Champion site-wide Predictive Maintenance (PdM) programs
(vibration, lubrication, ultrasonic) and support team of
Reliability Lead & Lubrication technicians.
- Improve DNA, 5S and Sanitation initiative among assigned teams.
Additional Responsibilities
- Position requires approximately 5% travel.
- Required to report physically to the prime work location; also
required to visit other company facilities.Education/Professional
Certifications/Licenses The following are the basic qualifications:
- A Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited institution
is required.
- The preferred candidate will have knowledge of API 510, API
570, API 620, API 653, etc.Experience The following are the
preferred qualifications:
- The preferred candidate will have 5 or more years of related
experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, similar to ours -
Sugar, Oil/Gas, Power Plant, Chemicals, Pulp/Paper, bulk food,
etc.).Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
The following are the basic qualifications:
- Must have demonstrated and proven track record in engineering
cost management, e.g., material, labor waste.
- Proven ability to develop and successfully introduce process
improvements per projected timelines.
- Intermediate-level user of MS Office applications, particularly
Word and Excel, and able to learn Company software.
- Duties require standing; walking; sitting; use of hands and/or
fingers to grasp, handle, pick-up, pinch, type, or feel; reaching
with hands and arms; climbing and balancing; talking and listening;
close and distance vision with depth perception, color vision and
the ability to adjust focus. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFT 1910 & NFPA regulations.Working
Conditions
- Work is in an open-office environment and is typically
performed away from the office for more than half the day. Work is
performed regularly near moving mechanical parts. Noise level is
loud. Employee Supervision
- Supervisor assigns problems in broad general terms and is
interested only in overall results achieved. Requires independent
judgment with little or no supervision. Requires creative and
original thinking to develop solutions to unusual or major problems
where decisions greatly affect major management
considerations.Decision Making/Accountability
- Position results have direct impact on operations of entire
organization.
