DetailsJob SummaryResponsible for full oversight of all phases of
the construction project including planning, directing, and
coordinating construction, engineering, and scheduling activities
of designated project to ensure that goals and objectives of the
project are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and
funding parameters by performing the required duties personally or
through subordinate supervisors. Job Description
- Provide positive safety leadership to the project
- Review field operations and ensure that the project provides a
safe workplace
- Manage professional staff responsible for design and project
construction
- Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure
the project progresses on schedule and within the prescribed
budget
- Assist subordinate supervisors in maintaining production on
budget and schedule
- Review project estimate or plan to determine the schedule,
estimated job cost, procedures for accomplishing the project,
staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to
various phases of the project
- Understand project and contractual documents i.e. completeness
or inadequacies
- Anticipate project needs with sufficient lead time to avoid
delays in production
- Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of the
project; works closely with Human Resources in recruitment efforts
as necessary.
- Oversees coordination with project staff to outline work plans,
assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority
- Review status and modify schedules or plans as required, and
prepares project reports for management, owners, and
subcontractors
- Follow-up on directives in order to be continuously attentive
to situations that are not progressing productively and for
opportunities to improve project performance
- Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and
resolve problems
- Work closely with Company employees, project supervisors,
owners, and external teams and support people to get commitments
regarding managerial and supervisory requests
- Coordinate the preparation and updating of the formal project
construction schedule as required by the contract documents
- Coordinate resource use with the project superintendent i.e.
craft assignment, crew sizes, and project layout for offices,
traffic flow, and material storage
- Responsible for claims management and documentation
- Coordinate material purchases; assure that subcontractor
agreements are prepared and change orders are accurate and issued
to owners, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Develop and maintain business relationships and manage
subcontractors, clients/owners, engineers, JV partner(s), and
unions if applicable
- Maintain relationships with contracting and regulatory agencies
and executive management
- Participate in project presentations to elected officials, the
general public, and other stakeholders
- Responsible for project closeout; secure loose ends by
finalizing paperwork, obtaining retainages, supporting supervisors,
and expediting claims
- Debriefing of the project to review all positive and negative
aspects after completion
- Ability to confidently negotiate any and all matters on behalf
of the Company as they relate to cost, schedule, and contract
matters with Owner/Subcontractor suppliers
- Knowledge and understanding of prevailing wage rules
- Perform additional assignments per management's directionJob
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or
university in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
preferred
- At least seven (7) years of related experience; highway
construction and management experience required
- Experience with managing roadway projects with the George
Department of Transportation; knowledge of GDOT Standard
Specifications
- Knowledge and experience of Federal, state, and local
regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Primavera P6;
Preferred proficiencies include HeavyJob and HeavyBid
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Goal-oriented - ability to set goals and achieve them
- Strong Interpersonal skills - able to lead diverse teams, as
well as work well and persuade people at all organizational
levels
- Organizational ability - able to plan, prioritize, organize,
and monitor activities and projects. Able to work well in a group
environment and foster a team approach.
- Professional Engineer License preferred, but not required
