The Current, Georgia's only investigative news organization, is
looking to recruit a Chief Revenue Officer to join our senior
management team and transform our prize-winning independent
newsroom, which empowers civically engaged readers with trustworthy
facts, into a more sustainable, impactful organization.Passion for
nonprofit and nonpartisan news as a key to strengthening democracy
is essential, as is a start-up business-minded attitude to
fearlessly support our founders' vision that providing in-depth
local news will improve accountability and fuel civic discussion
about problems and solutions for Coastal Georgia's diverse
communities.The CRO will work alongside our core leadership team to
set strategic business goals for the organization and have the
independence to execute plans to meet revenue targets while keeping
journalism ethics at the forefront. The most successful candidates
will come with a network of funding relationships to build on and
expand our thriving donor network; new ideas for potential revenue;
and experience and comfort in being a statewide and national public
face for our growing brand.YOUR IMPACTThis newly created position
is our investment in the future of our newsroom, founded in late
2020. Candidates should have an affinity for Georgia, life or
professional experience in the South, and be deeply engaged news
consumers and voters. It is essential to be able to connect with
people, get their buy-in, and move all parts of the organization
toward its financial and mission goals.Strong business development
skills, a keen understanding of nonprofit financing, and the
ability to shift between tactical and strategic work are a must.We
want to find someone who wants to innovate and build a legacy news
brand who is still not averse to digging into the nuances of a
business membership program or a grant proposal or finding
solutions to daily problems.As The Current's Chief Revenue Officer
you will---
- Develop, in coordination with the Editor in Chief, an annual
and multi-year fund development plan to support The Current's
mission, goals, programs, and member services.
- Grow The Current's traditional funding base (individual giving,
major gifts, annual giving, foundation grants).
- Develop additional creative funding streams, including
corporate giving, events, and earned revenue.
- Expand our capacity in marketing, strategic partnerships, and
new product development.
- Build audience and conversion efforts.
- Manage our portfolio of funders.
- Set strategy and lead execution of revenue team goals.
- Develop financial projections for multiple revenue sources and
programs.
- Develop revenue budgets and monitor performance vs.
budgets.
- Collaborate on organizational strategy with the leadership
team.
- Help develop a communications strategy and strategic marketing
plan.
- Oversee execution of the plan, including the development of key
messages, brand identity and design, sales and fundraising
materials, annual reports, and newsletters.Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, communications, or related
fields
- Minimum of five years of work experience in fundraising with
demonstrated results, particularly with major individual
donors.
- Demonstrated ability to raise funds and write grant
proposals.
- Excellent persuasive communication skills - verbal and
written.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects.Desired

- Experience with customer relationship management software
Bloomerang is a plus.
- Experience with grant writing and proposal developmentPreferred
Skills
- Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
