Job Description Summary Pharmacy specialists are responsible for
medication optimization, profile review, therapeutic drug
monitoring, clinical monitoring and participation in a clinical on
call program, medication stewardship, medication safety
initiatives, teaching and precepting, and otherwise supporting the

Shift Job Description 1. Purpose: The Clinical Specialists provides
distributive and clinical pharmacy services to the inpatients and
outpatients of the Medical University Hospitals and clinics. 2.
Requirements: a. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (Include physical
and mental demands of the position-attach demands checklist if
necessary: i. The position of Clinical Pharmacy Specialist requires
a doctoral degree in Pharmacy from an ACPE Accredited School of
Pharmacy. ii. Completion of a clinical pharmacy residency program:
Two years of clinical or hospital pharmacy experience may
substitute for the clinical pharmacy residency program. b.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS (If applicable to position): i. SC
Pharmacist License (or eligible for SC Pharmacist License) ii.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification: Must be BLS Certified
within three months of hire date and maintain certification
throughout employment. 3. Physical Requirements o NOTE: The
following descriptions are applicable to this section: 1)
Continuous – 6-8 hours per shift; 2) Frequent – 2-6 hours per
shift; 3) Infrequent – 0-2 hours per shift o Ability to perform job
functions while standing. (Continuous o Ability to perform job

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with
both eyes. (Continuous) o Ability to see and recognize objects
close at hand. (Continuous) o Ability to match or discriminate
between colors. (Continuous) o Ability to determine
distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
(Continuous) o Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) o
Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with corrections. (Continuous)
o Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor
movements. (Continuous) o Ability to be qualified physically for
respirator use, initially and as required. (Continuous) o Ability
to use automated mixing equipment. (Continuous) o Ability to work
overtime as required. (Continuous) o Ability to work in a latex
safe environment. (Continuous) o Ability to maintain tactile
sensory functions. (Continuous) o Ability to maintain good

Minimum Training and Education: Doctor of Pharmacy or a Bachelor's
degree in pharmacy. Completion of a pharmacy residency preferred.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensed as a
Registered Pharmacist by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)
certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers
