The TMX Finance - Family of Companies is looking for a Counsel I to
join our team to handle and manage certain litigation matters,
review certain contracts, perform legal tasks such as legal
research and legal project management, and support corporate and
field partners as necessary. Reporting to a Corporate and
Litigation Counsel, the Counsel I will work with a talented and
sophisticated group of legal professionals. The successful
candidate must have strong attention to detail and the ability to
prioritize deadlines, to execute multiple legal tasks, drive
strategic and aggressive litigation strategies, and consider
business impacts when reviewing contracts. The Counsel I must be a
self-starter and work well under pressure independently and as part
of a collaborative team. Some travel (domestic) may be required.
Hybrid work from home schedule provided. Fully remote considered,
but not preferred. Relocation package provided.
Oversee and manage small claims litigation matters throughout the
Coordinate and direct case strategy, draft/edit pleadings and
discovery, interview and prepare witnesses for depositions and
trial, and negotiate settlements.
Respond to attorney letters and other pre-suit correspondence.
Assist in management of various litigation, corporate matters,
contracts, and outside counsel.
Provide legal research on a variety of issues including legal,
compliance, and regulatory matters.
Responsible for identifying, assessing and pursuing claims and
affirmative recoveries, when necessary.
Support the other department members (including the following
teams: Bankruptcy, Legal Operations, Licensing, Regulatory, and the
other attorneys, known as "Legal Escalations"), as needed, with
discovery and other legal projects, document review, legal
research, and business projects.
Support the corporate and field operations, as needed.
0 to 2 years relevant experience including law firm and/or in-house
J.D. degree required and membership in good standing in at least
one state bar in U.S.

Experience with legal research programs such as Westlaw, Lexis, or

Comfortable with aggressive and proactive defense strategies
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and be
Litigation experience preferred
Experience with contracts and corporate matters a plus
Some knowledge of business and legal issues a plus.
Physical demands for this position frequently include: the ability
to remain in a stationary position, move about freely inside and
occasionally outside of the office, and the operation of mechanical
controls, such as a keyboard.
