Position Overview:

Disability Adjudication Services (DAS) makes Social Security disability determinations under an agreement with the Social Security Administration. Provides professional disability adjudication for Social Security Administration disability applicants. Independently makes eligibility determinations on all types of disability claims involving all categories of disabilities; and performs other duties as required. The main DAS office is in Stone Mountain with branch offices located in Athens, Dalton, Thomasville and Savannah. This position filled through this announcement will be a member of the Claims Processing team and will be based in Savannah, Georgia.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Specifically, under limited supervision, manages and directs the work of any of the following groups:

* Manages, monitors and directs the work of Adjudicative Officer(s), Adjudicators and Associate Adjudicators who: * Develop and adjudicate complex, problematic and sensitive case types. * Develop and adjudicate complex cases for: * Social Security and/or Supplemental Security income disability benefits in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures and the organization's objective and policies; * Or who perform special assignments such as training of new adjudicators and serving as resource person to Claims Processing units; * Or who perform quality assurance review for the agency;

* May supervise Support Staff in the Branch Offices who perform clerical functions in a support role. * Responsible for opening and closing the office

* Coordinate with the Procurement Officer in Stone Mountain to assure the branch office has adequate supplies and equipment for day-to-day operations. * Assure efficient flow/mailing of paper cases between SSA Field Offices and the branch office. * Coordinate with the Facilities Manager in Stone Mountain and/or the property owner to assure a secure, safe and comfortable work environment. Also, monitor compliance with health and safety issues, as required. * Serve as local Point of Contact (POC) for any HSPD-related matters. * Provide local clerical support for the Disability Hearings Unit (DHU) and Medical Support Unit (MSU), as needed. * Ensure timely and accurate processing of incoming and outgoing mail. * Manage all employee work relocation moves. * Serves as liaison with property owner and DAS Facilities Manager on facility related issues. * Ensure that maintenance needs for facility are reported promptly and perform follow up as needed. * Ensures envelopes used by branch office are in stock by conducting bi-monthly inventory to determine usage. Provides Facilities Manager with accurate inventory counts and submissions of request to order envelopes. * Responsible for review/maintenance of video surveillance equipment.

Qualifications and Skills:


Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications and successful competencies, possess one or more of the items below;

* Eighteen (18) months or more of experience as a Adjudication Officer (Disability Adjudicator 3) * Eighteen (18) months or more as a Supervisor 1 within QA, DHU or Training Department * Eighteen (18) months or more as a QA Reviewer * Twelve (12) months or more as a training unit Adjudication Officer (Disability Adjudicator 3)

Working Conditions:

Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting. This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position involves managing a high volume workload and demands a high level of accuracy while working with short deadlines affecting a claimant population in need of monetary and medical assistance. Regular attendance is an important part of being successful in this position. Work is performed in an office environment. Strong computer skills are needed due to ongoing changes to applications that affect the way the work is performed.

Probationary Period:

This job will have an evaluation at the end of twelve (12) months.

As a condition of employment with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, you must successfully complete a mandatory federal and national background check, Pre-employment testing, and additional checks required for your job. In addition, employment with DAS is contingent upon meeting the requirements of Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12.

Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND Four years of professional experience interpreting and applying laws regarding program eligibility OR Two years of experience required at the lower level Adjudicator 3 (LEP012) or position equivalent
