The *Savannah Convention Center* is currently seeking an *Event Manager* to join our family! Be a part of our team of the 330,000 square foot Savannah Convention Center currently undergoing an expansion and located directly across from historic Savannah and on the Savannah River. This position reports to the Event Services Manager.
The position is responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling assigned events within the Savannah Convention Center to include but not limited to logistical requirements of events, event documents, and conduct meetings with clients, service providers and operating departments. Serves as Manager-on-Duty in the absence of building management and makes decisions independently appropriate to facility policies and procedures. Coordinates and directs the staff to provide necessary services in a professional manner. Resolves disputes involving clients and operating departments within context of building rules and regulations.

* Acts as primary on-site facility contact with the client; coordinates and directs the staff to provide necessary services and equipment to implement client requirements and changes in accordance with current facility policies.
* Function as liaison between users of the facility and the operation departments.
* Prepare detailed event outlines, drawings, and instructions to operating departments based on evaluation of client specifications with consideration of facility capabilities, regulations, policies, and other circumstances.
* Build cost estimates for the client based on services needed from planning meetings.
* Review client's proposed event operation plan, including floor plans. Recommend to the client changes determined to be in the best interest of the client and the facility. Direct changes required by facility policies, procedures, and regulations, or by limitations of the facility or operating departments. Recommend to the Event Services Manager approval of an event operation plan which is consistent with facility policies, procedures, regulations, and the client's contract; or recommend rejection/modification of an operation plan which does not comply and for which voluntary compliance cannot be obtained.
* Monitor event progress in accordance with the approved event operation plan to ensure compliance. In the event of noncompliance by the client, determine whether the noncompliance is material and coordinate required corrections with the client or client supplier; recommend appropriate action to the Event Services Manager if correction of the noncompliance is not achieved. Direct appropriate corrective action to operating departments regarding the noncompliance.
* Directs last-minute adjustments in room or equipment set-ups at the request of the client or to assure compliance with safety measures; prepare accurate statement of additional charges.
* Monitor event requirements as they relate to other scheduled events, activities, and requirements. Coordinate with applicable parties to avoid conflicts.
* Initiates, directs, and participates in pre-event planning meetings with clients and operating departments.
* Conducts post-event meetings with the client and operating departments to review and discuss services provided.
* Serves as "manager on duty" in the absence of facility management and makes decisions independently appropriate to facility policies and procedures.
* Plan, organize and maintain a productive work schedule as required by events assigned by the Event Services Manager.
* Complete intra-departmental projects as assigned.
* Such other duties, functions, special projects as assigned by the Event Services Manager.

* Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office, database systems are essential
* Ability to work an irregular work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays as required to perform duties and responsibilities.


* Bachelor's degree in hospitality management or related field strongly preferred
* Minimum two (2) years of experience in hospitality, conference management or related field.
