FUNCTION: To assist the Lifestyle 360 Director in the delivery of recreational, evidence based programming to meet the needs of the residents in the community. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: The following specifications may differ depending upon the number of available employees among whom the performance of a particular job function can be distributed and the size and type of community. Employees may be required to perform other duties requested by his/her supervisor. Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills or abilities. To perform this job successfully, incumbent will possess the mental abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently. All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill or ability required. Must pass background screen and drug screen. Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in human service or recreation therapy preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills. Previous experience working in a health care setting a plus. Ability to work effectively with small groups as leader or facilitator. Equipment Used: Working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in job functions. Certificates, Licenses, Registration: Licensed or registered, if applicable, by the state. Eligibility for state certification as an activity director preferred. Valid state Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire, or must be obtained within a reasonable period of time from date of hire. First Aid Certification desired. Language Skills: Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral English and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary setting with residents, families, staff members, representatives of community and visitors. Mathematical Skills: Basic knowledge of math functions - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Ability to develop, understand and track recreation program budget. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must be able to interpret and implement written or oral programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Recreation Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. In coordination with the Lifestyle 360 Director, helps in the analysis of the community's resident population and the development of an innovative, evidence based, seven days per week (at least five programs per day with one program in the evening) activity program that is engaging and incorporates the Five Dimensions of Wellness: _Emotional Dimension_- 5 days per week; _Intellectual Dimension_- 7 days per week; _Physical Dimension_- 7 days per week; _Social Dimension_- 7 days per week; and _Spiritual Dimension_- 3 days per week2. Interviews residents, on occasion, to determine his/her interests and program preferences and if, appropriate what accommodates may be needed for program attendance (such as large print game card etc.)3. In coordination with the Lifestyle 360 director, helps with the writing of recreation program descriptions.4. Ensures that all documentation required by state and Five Star corporate policy is written in a timely fashion.5. In conjunction with the Lifestyle 360 Director, helps to create opportunities for residents to interact with the community at large through the development of outside trips, volunteer programs and arts and entertainment programs.6. Under the direction of the Lifestyle 360 Director, assesses the effectiveness of programming through attendance sheets, and resident/family surveys.7. Ensures that all appropriate residents get to the activity. Requires Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain CDL within a reasonable time period ( 3 months.) 8. Complies with facility policies and procedures for workplace safety including infection control procedures, application of universal precautions for blood borne pathogens, use of personal protective equipment and handling of hazardous materials.9. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures for the facility, with ability to locate nearest exit, understand and respond to written and oral instructions in cases of an emergency.10.Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and complete duties/projects within the time allotted. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Demonstrates active listening techniques, gains support through effective relationships, treats others with dignity and respect and seeks feedback. Develops and maintains a good working relationship and cooperative attitude with intradepartmental personnel, as well as, other departments within the community. Possesses the ability to deal professionally and cooperatively with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public. Possesses willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise staff assigned to department or projects. Works with the Company resources or consultants as necessary and implements recommended changes as required. CONTINUING EDUCATION: Attends continuing education programs required for maintenance of any professional certifications. Incorporates new methods, principles, and trends learned from continuing education programs into existing practices PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to assist residents on and off bus, van or car, and may be required to move or arrange furniture for activities and/or climb stoop, bend, kneel, push and reach to carry out activities. Sufficient mobility and strength to move freely through the building and to assist, while involved in activities or transportations. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision and peripheral vision. Ability to remain calm under stress. Able to carry our essential functions of this job (with or without reasonable accommodation) without posing specific, current risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self and others. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
