1. Sound knowledge and proficiency in the use of Neuro-Diagnostic
equipment. 2. Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with
patients, patient's family, Neuro-Diagnostic Laboratory staff,
physicians and other members of the hospital staff. Interacts with
Neurologists, other physicians, and other staff personnel. 3.
Explains test to patients. 4. Obtains an accurate and concise
patient history. Notes patient information, such as seizure types,
date of last seizure, other neurologic symptoms, and any
medications taken. 5. Measures and apply EEG electrodes using 10 -
20 International System in an accurate and efficient manner. 6.
Calibrates, evaluates and adjusts the EEG instrument to proper
technical standards as required. Puts emphasis on sensitivity, time
axis, mechanical and electrical baseline in order to obtain top
quality EEG recordings. 7. Records EEG activity using standard
montages. Labels all pertinent machine settings and clinical
observations on the EEG tracing. 8. Recognizes, monitors and
eliminates electrode artifacts such as high-impedance leads, muscle
artifact, eye movement, respiration artifact, and EKG-caused
artifacts in order to obtain an adequate test. 9. Implements
alternative non-standard montage and machine setting in order to
better define abnormalities, including the application of
additional electrodes such as eye leads, etc. 10. Performs routine
activation procedures such as hyperventilation and photec
stimulation. 11. Removes electrodes and cleans the patient's scalp
after completion of study. 12. Cleans electrodes and equipment.
Maintains work area in an organized, safe and sanitary fashion by
cleaning the patient area and by changing the linen for the next
patient. 13. Recognize normal patterns, normal variants and
abnormal patterns. 14. Passes competency tests given by the Lead
Technologist as appropriate. 15. Logs all EEG records and puts
charges in the computer accurately. Transfer EEG information to
physician reading room. 16. Attends seminars on
Electroneuro-diagnostic Testing and completes annual continuing
education as required. 17. Uses QA sheet to report
miscommunications and delays. 18. Verifies doctor's orders in
chart. Follows Dr.'s written orders. 19. Initials patient's chart
when exam is completed. 20. Organizes and prioritizes exams for
best work flow.
