SUMMARY

  • This position is responsible for the overall operation and repair of the packaging machines.
    Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    Safety

    Know and observe Plant Safety work procedures and rules, Environmental Practices and GMP guidelines.

    Maintains packaging line at acceptable levels of safety and housekeeping.

    Shutdown packaging lines if there is an unacceptable Safety risk.

    Report all safety issues and recommendations to supervision.

    Understand and follow proper procedures for all Lockout - Tag out - Try procedures for system including Packaging machine, conveyor system, sugar feed system, and all auxiliary equipment.

    Quality

    Visually inspect bags being produced on machine for proper fold, sealing, weights, bag shape and overall product appearance.

    Complete all necessary Quality paperwork including hourly checks and deviation documentation.

    Shutdown packaging lines if there is an unacceptable Quality risk.

    Productivity

    Maintain proper housekeeping at packaging line.

    Run filling machine and auxiliary equipment; to include start-ups, shutdowns, emergency shutdown, jogging machine, major and minor adjustments, scale adjustments, adjusting pressures, sugar flow adjustments, fold adjustments, clearing jams prior to the palletizer and lane diventor at the unitizer.

    Run auxiliary equipment to include but not limited to: hot and cold glue machines, conveyors, magnets, kalfas bundler and trash compactor.

    Troubleshoot and diagnose all problems that occur on the Bosch machine and auxiliary equipment.

    Able to dismantle the machine and auxiliary equipment to gain access to problem areas and make repairs.

    Remove and repair worn or defective parts.

    Perform deep cleaning of packaging machines and auxiliary equipment on an as needed basis.

    Perform minor maintenance such as lubrication and setting adjustments.

    Replenish packaging supplies as necessary for continuous operation.

    Makes recommendations for modifications of the equipment to improve efficiencies.

    Participate in the team effort to improve performance.

    Change plastic and paper rolls, fill glue containers, replaces ink cartridges.

    Must understand and be physically capable of following all of the documented cleaning procedures for the machine where assigned.

    Responsibilities

    Ability to work overtime when needed.

    Perform any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

            • Two years of college or technical schoolExperience

                • Three or more years of automated packaging experienceKnowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
                  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
                  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
                  • While performing the duties of this Job, the associate is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The associate must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.The following are the preferred qualifications:
                    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
                    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization.

                        • While performing the duties of this Job, the associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The associate is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The associate is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.Employee Supervision
