As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects. -- DESCRIPTION Michael Baker is actively seeking a Construction Inspector for our Savannah, Georgia location.--The Construction Inspector / QA Technician is a project specific role within the Construction Services group of Michael Baker International. Typically located on a project site, the Construction Inspector is tasked with providing daily inspection, sampling, and testing of construction materials and processes. The primary duties of the Construction Inspector are as follows: Perform independent inspections of roadways and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with the construction contract Review of construction plans and specifications in preparation of field observations on construction sites; Documentation of field activities, observations, and testing results on construction projects, and their conformance with (or deviation from) project plans and specifications; Field testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and masonry mortar/grout for compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and/or project specifications; Daily use of laboratory information management systems, for recording of testing results; Communication of field and laboratory testing results with Construction Services; Mentoring, coaching, and training of less experienced technician staff in the areas of testing and inspection; Calibration of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards. Perform complex variety of calculations and computations Perform contract documentation duties, which may include field measurements of pay items as well as other department required documentation Perform routine and standardized inspections, such as: Inspect asphalt and concrete for acceptable materials and construction procedures-- Inspect pavement for proper spreading, rolling, depth, alignment, and compaction-- Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications-- Inspect installation of structural materials and members-- Inspect installation of drainage and placement of culverts-- Inspect structural operations such as foundation excavation----placement of piling, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete and backfill-- Inspect traffic control and erosion control devices for compliance; -- POSITION REQUIREMENTS Preferred Qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, preferred; In-lieu of education, 10 years of inspection experience; Minimum 5 years' experience in construction inspection required in any case; GDOT experience strongly preferred; Knowledge of materials, methods, and practices for roadway and bridge construction; Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications; Strong written communication skills for daily reports and project records; Certifications such as GSWCC Blue Card, GDOT WECS, ACI Concrete, are a plus; MICHAEL BAKER INTERNATIONAL EEO STATEMENT Michael Baker International is proud to be an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
